It’s easy to question why some people seem to be blessed, even when their lives don’t reflect God.

In this episode of 5 Minutes & Coffee, we look at Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:45—that God sends rain on everyone, both the just and the unjust. This truth challenges how we think about fairness, blessing, and grace.

Instead of focusing on what others receive, this episode shifts the perspective inward: there was a time when we were also undeserving, yet God still showed us kindness.

God’s blessings are not always a sign of approval—they are often an expression of His mercy.

Because the same grace we may struggle to understand in others…

is the same grace that saved us.

Hello, everybody. Welcome to another episode of 5 Minutes and Coffee. My name is Jerry, and I'm happy to be sharing God's word with you. Today it has been raining. The rain started yesterday, and although we really needed this rain, it got me to thinking about the word of God. With everything that is happening in the world today, all of just the turmoil and the stress and everything that's happening, seeing the rain brought me back to God's word. For this episode, we're going to look at Matthew chapter 5, verses 45. And it reads, That you may be children of your Father in heaven, he causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. So when considering the rain, I was thinking about how much of a blessing it is to receive rain. It may not always be convenient, but it's a blessing to have rain to come upon the land. And I thought about the rain in terms of it's not just a blessing to me, it is also a blessing to those who absolutely oppose God. It is a blessing to those who say they love God, but in action they actually don't. Why does the Lord bless the unjust? Why does the Lord bless those who put out injustice? And this week, with the way our world works and the news that comes out, I just begin to think, man, there are some people who are just oppressed. There are some people who are not getting a lawful response to their need. There are some people who are being taken advantage of through loopholes or simply through corruption. So why does the Lord provide rain on those people and why am I commanded to love those people? Because at the end of the day, what happens in this life and my response to it is what I must give an account for. So in trying to just meditate on God's will and trying to meditate on what I need to do, this was my thought this week. The rain on the just and the unjust. When I find myself having thoughts on why must I consider the other person? My first step after prayer is to reverse the situation and turn it to why must I be considered? Essentially, what I'm saying is I think about my shortcomings and then I think what type of response do I want for me? If I was being a stubborn child of God, a disobedient child of God, would I still want it to rain on me? What we are seeing every day is a reminder that God's word is true, and the reason why he said those things is that he knew there would be some people in this life that would not be beholden to his will. He knew that there will be some people who would deliberately take advantage of you for self-gain. He knew that it would be a challenge for us in this walk, which is why he gave us his words and his promise. I think about what my destiny would have been if he had not looked upon me to give me a chance, which is I would not have had a savior to die on the cross to purchase my redemption with his blood to give me a chance at eternal salvation. And it's just a reminder that whatever is happening today, whatever is going to happen tomorrow, remember, we're just passing through this life and to not be so overrun and to not grow weary in wanting to do what the Lord says. So if you are struggling to pray for certain individuals or an individual, remember, do not grow weary, for God's arm is not short, neither is he slack concerning his promises. This week, my sole aim is just to encourage you to stay in the faith and to not let anyone discourage you from doing what is right by the Lord. There is a lot of them versus us. There is a lot of I don't care anymore, it's not right. And I'm not saying that the feelings aren't real and that it's not understandable. All I'm asking is that despite everything that's happening, remember your promise to the Lord and that when it rains, it is the Lord blessing you despite all things, giving everyone a chance to turn back to Him. Whenever I record an episode, I'm not always entirely sure how it's going to be received or what anyone's take is going to be. So I'm really just hoping to encourage you to just focus on the Lord and don't focus on those who oppose the will of God. He already told us they would be there. Let us love God with all our hearts and with all our minds. And whenever that doom and gloom news comes and tells you what's about to happen, remember we serve a God that is mightier than that. If this episode has been of any benefit to you and you think it could help someone else, my ask is that you just share it with one person. This is Jerry with Five Minutes and Coffee.
