We all have moments when we don’t feel as strong spiritually as we think we should—moments when our faith feels off, our confidence feels shaken, and our expectations don’t match our reality. Whether you’re a new Christian wondering when maturity will show up, or a seasoned believer facing unexpected struggles, this episode is for you.

Let's explore why spiritual growth is a lifelong process, why every season carries a lesson you haven’t learned yet, and how easily our compass can drift when we take our eyes off Scripture—even by one degree.

SPEAKER_00:

Hello everybody, welcome to another episode of 5 Minutes and Coffee. My name is Jerry and I'm happy to be sharing another episode with you. Question for you today. How do you feel spiritually? Are you feeling strong? Are you feeling motivated? Or are you feeling lower than you normally do? My question this week is: what are we supposed to do when we as Christians don't feel like we are supposed to feel? For instance, you're a new Christian and you're looking at an older Christian and you're wondering at what point will you be able to handle certain situations the way you see these older Christians handle situations? Or what if you are an older Christian and you are struggling with something and you're wondering, is your faith intact? What is it that we should do to ensure that we have a level of peace when approaching our spiritual walk? One of the things that I've come to truly learn is that this walk with Christ is a lifelong process, and what that means is at any point in your life, there is a lesson that can be taught, and there is a lesson to be learned. And if there is a lesson to be learned, it means you don't know the answer or you don't have the experience. For instance, when my child wants to ask me about math one plus one, or he wants to discuss his ABCs, I'm not learning them. I know them. It is not a lesson for me to learn. So when we are going through life and we are dealing with struggles and we are dealing with challenges and we are not sure what to do, it is because it is something we don't know, and there's something that the Lord is trying to teach us. And if you find yourself in that headspace of I should know this, ask yourself, should you really know this? Is this a situation that you've experienced? Is this something that you should have a perfect response to? Because sometimes we can know something, but to do it is a different means. For instance, it's a lot easier to be kind to an enemy that does a small offense than it is to be kind to an enemy that does a large offense. You may have been prepared to love your enemy when the offense was something you could manage, but what about when it becomes something that you are not prepared for? It becomes a lesson that we have to learn. One of the things that we always have to do, no matter what stage of our Christianity we are in, is to go back to the Bible, because sometimes, no matter how experienced we are, we can lose our sense of direction. Scripture points us in a very specific direction that we should walk. But if we take our eye off of Scripture for just a minute, if we begin to look at ourselves and what we should be for just a minute, even if we slightly shift our focus and direction by one degree, we cannot land at the same target. For instance, if I am in Florida and I want to go to Georgia, I must head north. But let's say I alter the direction that I go and I go northwest. Well, there's a great chance that I can end up in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and it's just that slight of a direction change which could lead us in the wrong direction. When you look at your compass, is it pointed towards Christ, or have we slightly lost focus thinking we are heading in the right direction? I think another thing that is also beneficial to us is understanding that God is coming from a parental perspective, a godly perspective, and not the perspective of us when we look at ourselves, and at times we can be a lot more harsher on ourselves than what God has asked us to be, because He knows that we are not perfect. I remember when my child came to me distraught because they had broken a glass bottle full of hand soap. My child was so focused on the mistake that they made that they missed the part of me being proud of their growth and being able to say honestly, this is what I've done. And sometimes we must understand that the way the Lord grades us is not necessarily how we grade us. The Lord is not looking for perfection, he's looking for your heart and your obedience. That is not an excuse to go out and do what you want and say, But my heart is good. It's just a way to keep us focused on Christ. So if you feel like you're not where you're supposed to be, my question for you is, are you where the Lord has placed you? And if you feel like there is a place you want to be, then my question is, have you prayerfully asked the Lord to lead you? And lastly, consider the father's relationship to his child. Are you conducting yourself in a manner worthy of love, striving to be obedient to his word? Thank you for listening to this episode of Five Minutes and Coffee. Thank you for those who continue to share this episode and who continue to reach out to me and offer me encouragement. Thank you for all the support you've given me. I'm continually asking, share this podcast with someone, consider joining my Discord group as I am hoping to build a community where it's a safe space to have conversations amongst Christians without all of the outside influence. So, with all of that, I want to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year as I will be on break until the new year. May the Lord continue to keep you.
